Wait for the USA

for
I
have stood
on downtown streets
and watched

soldiers
homeless
in their own
home towns

lost Americans
housed in bungalows
on the desecrated lands
of a rich uncle’s
broken promise

the
immigrant’s labor
farmed
to every market
but his own

and
I have seen
a generation
sit
in coffee shops
and diners
waiting

while
mom and dad
too
wait for the USA

NBC
and CBS

—-fall lineup
